Community Program

Player Development Program

Following the successful launch of the Summer Vacation Football coaching camp, which was the club's inaugural venture that was held in the month of May, Mahindra United, the Mumbai league champions came up with their second programme of the season i.e. ‘Player Development Programme’, which too has been greeted with fantastic response.

Player Development Program

The ‘Player Development Programme’, held in association with Sports Authority of India, Mumbai, which is designed to meet specific training needs, where the coaches will work to set up an effective programme to enhance the players skill and team cohesion, kicked off on Saturday, July 4 during the afternoon session in the midst of a heavy downpour, which made the ground conditions quite soggy. Conditions witnessed on the opening day, hardly suggested that things would work out as planned, however, the sheer fervor of the children to get things going backed by the complete support of their parents ensured that the programme schedule was not disturbed.

With just two sessions completed, it would be too early to evaluate it at this stage, however, the concept of this programme which revolves around covering all aspects of the game, will certainly be beneficial to the participants as their training and evaluation is intended to provide the campers with a method that can be used to continue improving their game even after leaving the camp. When one considers the monsoon period during which the camp is being conducted along with the fact that the schools have started last month, the number of entries, reaching close to seventy, which the club has received for the ‘Player Development Programme’, has clearly surpassed the expectations of the organizers.

Player Development Program

Though the programme has commenced, but the number of enquiries are still flooding in and as a result, Mahindra United have decided to make available more 25 seats for the year-long training programme, going to be held on weekends. The tremendous turnout which was witnessed on the opening day despite inclement weather, even surprised and caught the eye of former international Santosh Kashyap, who is heading this whole programme.

“The enthusiasm shown by the children, their parents and their readiness to work in these conditions is great. Playing football in rains is all together a different feeling,” said Santosh Kashyap, the coach of Mahindra United Under-19 team, who is also an AFC ‘A’ License holder.
